Picture Postcard – Austin, Texas
The Boardwalk was a long time coming.
Lady Bird Johnson is one of the people credited with the original vision of a promenade trail along Town Lake in Austin, Texas. This was back when she and her husband, President Lyndon Johnson had first returned from their time in Washington, DC. It took over 40 years to complete the 10 mile loop connecting east and west; partially due to the expense of building the Boardwalk section that looks on to the bluffs and protects fragile wetland areas.
Photos of the bridges taken from the trail are surprisingly iconic travel shots. Underneath the I-35 access road can now be added to the collection thanks to the Boardwalk along what is now called Lady Bird Lake.
Welcome to my series of travel postcards that I’ll be posting once a week. Click on the card for a larger view.
