Picture Postcard – Savannah Georgia
Historic churches, restored homes, picturesque squares and, yes, tour buses fill the downtown streets of Savannah, Georgia.
This spire is the Independent Presbyterian Church, one of many historic houses of worship located in the city. This particular sanctuary dates back to the 1890’s but the church was founded in 1755. The First African Baptist Church is one of the oldest African American churches in the US and Temple Mickve Israel is the third oldest synagogue. I skipped the bus tour and chose a walking tour instead to learn more of the complicated history of this southern city.
Welcome to my series of travel postcards that I’ll be posting once a week. Click on the card for a larger view.
