Picture Postcard – Pigeon Point California

At Pigeon Point a shining beacon in the fog still guides ships along the coast of Northern California.

Now a California State Park overlooking tide pools and rocks with sunning harbor seals, the worker housing has been converted to an International Hostel location. Pigeon Point Light Station is tied with Point Arena Light as the tallest light houses on the US west coast.  The tower has been fenced off with no public access due to the deteriorating ironworks that make up the scaffolding and ladders. The hope is to find funding to restore the lighthouse for tours but until then the surrounding beach and trails are definitely worth a visit.

Welcome to a series of travel postcards that I’ll be posting once a week. Click on the card for a larger view.
