Picture Postcard – Madrid Spain Catedral de la Almudena
The Cathedral sparkled on a rainy night in Spain .
Madrid’s Catedral de la Almudena is actually the new kid on the block. Completed and consecrated in 1993, the Cathedral was built to complement the baroque style of the its neighbor, the Royal Palace of Madrid. The interior, in contrast, has modern, colorful ceilings above sleek, neo-gothic walls with differing architectural styles within the smaller chapels. Controversial to some madrileños, this Cathedral reflects the modern times in which it was built.
Welcome to a new series of travel postcards that I’ll be posting once a week. Click on the card for a larger view.
