Picture Postcard – Cayo District Belize
The Cayo District of Belize, near the Guatemalan border, is the rugged home of the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. A few high-end eco resorts are near the reserve but many people stay in San Ignacio or book day trips from the coast.
Between Rio Frio Cave and the Rio On Pools was this overlook – a perfect lunch spot during a day of adventuring. The Rio Frio Cave is one of the largest cave openings in the area keeping it accessible while Barton Creek Cave and Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) were closed for a few days due to flooding. San Ignacio is a great base for touring Mayan ruins such as Tikal in Guatemala and Cahal Pech, caving and my favorite off-the-beaten path find Poustinia Land Art Park.
Welcome to a new series of travel postcards that I’ll be posting once a week. Click on the card for a larger view.
