Picture Postcard – Chicago, Illinois
Water can define a place. Chicago is one of many mid-western cities spanning the rivers that powered their growth.
The Chicago River is a mix of natural and man-made waterways that run through the city. It has been during the last generation that a concerted effort has been made to clean up the river after more than a century of industrial waste and sewage dumpage. Even the dye used to tint it green for St Patrick’s Day has been changed to a more eco-friendly formula.
Boat tours along the river give a unique view of the metropolis along its banks.
Welcome to a new series of travel postcards that I’ll be posting once a week. Click on the card for a larger view.
