Picture Postcard – Bath England
Best known for the Roman Baths, this English city is home to other beautiful architectural and historic sites.
The Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul or more commonly known as Bath Abbey is said to be the last great medieval cathedral built in England. People have been worshiping at this location well over 1,000 years within a number of churches and monasteries. Bath Abbey suffered a similar roofless period open to the elements as Tintern Abbey due to King Henry VIII’s dissolution orders in 1539.
Restored and expanded since that time, the Abbey website has a well-done virtual tour of the magnificent interior. An active faith community, the Abbey now welcomes visitors for tours, services and concerts.
Welcome to a new series of travel postcards that I’ll be posting once a week. Click on the card for a larger view.
