Picture Postcard – San Jose del Cabo
It’s New Year’s Day and the church bells are ringing.
The Mission of San Jose del Cabo Anuiti is still a working church almost 300 years after the initial Mission was established at the southern end of Baja California Sur, Mexico. The Spanish Missions represent a complicated history of exploration and colonialism throughout North America. Those that remain are places of both active worship and examination of that complicated past. On this day, the Mission was a gathering place for community celebration shared by both locals and tourists.
Welcome to a new series of travel postcards that I’ll be posting twice a week. Click on the card for a larger view.
