Picture Postcard – County Galway Ireland
Connemara in the west of Ireland is home to Kylemore Abbey.
Bike touring in July 2005, we had enjoyed perfectly sunny days except for a brief sprinkling on this day. The rain and mist lent the right mood to the day, reminding us that we were, in fact, visiting Ireland. Kylemore Abbey is home to Benedictine nuns who purchased the property in 1920 after being forced to flee the war in Belgium. Originally completed in 1871 and know as Kylemore Castle, the property including beautiful walled gardens are open for tours.
Welcome to a new series of travel postcards that I’ll be posting twice a week. Click on the card for a larger view.
